Abstract: Healthcare-associated infections represent a significant public health problem, especially in intensive care units, where patients are more susceptible to complications arising from invasive procedures. Among these infections, urinary tract infection associated with the use of indwelling urinary catheters stands out, considered one of the most frequent in the hospital setting and responsible for increased length of stay, healthcare costs, and morbidity and mortality rates. Given this scenario, the present study aimed to highlight the relevance of multidisciplinary work as a strategy for the prevention of urinary tract infection associated with the use of indwelling urinary catheters in intensive care units. This is an integrative literature review, descriptive in nature and with a qualitative approach, based on scientific articles published between 2016 and 2025, selected from the CINAHL, MEDLINE/PubMed, and LILACS databases. The results demonstrated that the integrated performance of the multidisciplinary team, combined with the implementation of care protocols, continuous training of professionals, careful evaluation of the indication and duration of urinary catheterization, as well as the adoption of evidence-based practices, significantly contributes to the reduction of urinary tract infection rates. It is concluded that strengthening multidisciplinary work is an essential strategy for promoting patient safety, improving the quality of care, and reducing complications related to the use of urinary catheters in intensive care units.
