Abstract: The integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and additional disciplines (STEM+) has influenced the educational field during the last three decades. This article examines teaching as a connection between STEM+ and ancestral or traditional knowledge in communities with wide cultural diversity, specifically for teachers in training in Natural Sciences. The interrelation between STEM+ and cultural diversity is analyzed in the context of teacher training. The methodology adopted is qualitative, based on the analysis of teaching sequences, materials generated by students, and semi-structured interviews. The findings suggest that motivation, empathy, recognition of the other, the educational context, beliefs and teaching experiences, as well as the teaching environment, need to be adequately transformed to design STEM+ mediations in culturally diverse contexts. In conclusion, it is relevant to adapt and contextualize STEM+ activities within the specific natural, social, and cultural frameworks of each diverse community.
